Been thinking about how to help our people participate in morning worship, rather than just asking someone to do something during the service.
At Healing Worship I lay the different pieces on the pew, and what isn't picked up I do.
What parts of the service can be farmed out I think that may be reading the Scripture, Creed, and Sermon be mine, everything else could be copied, or marked in a bulletin, and individuals take what they would like to do during the service.
This would require sitting up in the Chancel (The Pulpit area) after doing the piece of worship could exit the pulpit to the congregation.
What do you think
Ron

So, let's see: We're talking about someone to "lead" the greeting/announcements. We're talking about someone to "lead" the songs. We're talking about someone to "lead" the responsive reading. We're talking about someone to "lead" the time of intercessory prayer. We're talking about someone to "lead" the good words of sending forth.
I've really liked your "giving away" of the Healing Worship service parts. People seem eager to pick them up now. It did require some gentle encouragement when you started that, as I recall.
I bet it would work just fine.
Personally, I would rather hear YOU give the Good Words of Sending Forth (not sure I can speak to WHY, just my gut reaction) and would be open to someone else reading the scripture and/or creed.
Just my two cents.

How about their signing up for a month a week in advance so you would know who is responsible and their name could be printed in the bulletin? Also it would encourage them to be there every Sunday that month which is a special event in the life of our church.

Why is it important to have your name in the bulletin?

Because we all (humans in general) want to be significant?

Jan.27th service went smoothly because we knew what came before and who followed who. By placing the name in the bulletin is also a way to give more people an opportunity to participate. Some people need a lot of encouragement. If you just lay it out you may get the same people doing the same thing over and over.

Wow - yesterday's service was great! Having all those folks involved was really nice. I tend to agree w/ the Rev regarding names in the bulletin, however, personally if I have about a day to prepare (if needed) I certainly would prefer the time. That being said, if I am asked on any given Sunday AM to participate, I would not say no & just pray a little harder and faster. Kudos to all involved!

I agree with Julie about yesterday's service. Terrific. I like seeing others participate and I like participating. Having names in the bulletin give folks another opportunity to put a face with a name. We often forget that we have visitors who do not know us well. We even have members who don't know everyone's name.
Evangelist Boleware is a powerful speaker who beautifully challenged us to think about the true reason we serve.
Lord, help me always to remember you and forget myself.

Ok - let's generate a "big" list of names, and then figure out a way for them to get "registered" for a particular Sunday.
Would we want to set a maximum number? I think that if we have too many particpating that might also create an uncomfortable feeling in the congregation.

Where I've indicated "non speaking role", I wonder to what extent the person named would be comfortable speaking in public.

Wow! What a list for starters! I believe two or three persons participating at the most with each one maybe choosing what they would like to do.

I really enjoyed Gordon and his description of UMCOR today, March 2nd. The only thing I would have changed was in morning worship. I would loved to have heard more of his stories like his "dancing story." I believe he has hundreds of stories to tell. I wish he would occasionally e mail us a recent story for all to read in the Chimes. I look forward to Ron and Steve Thomas leading our church in getting involved in this ministry.

This month's Queries from my home Meeting in Baltimore that I thought might be worth sharing:
Are love and harmony within the Church fostered by a spirit of open sharing? Do you endeavor to widen your circle of friendships within the Church, seeking to know persons of all ages and at all stages of the spiritual journey? Does the Church provide for the spiritual refreshment of all members and attenders? Do members provide spiritual and practical care for the elderly, the lonely, and others with special needs?
Queries:
What helps our Church build trust in one another? How do we get to know one another in community? How do we make time in our lives for our faith community? How does conflict enrich the life of our community?
