 Paraments, etc.
« Thread Started on Jul 23, 2008, 9:38am »

Today, I changed the paraments to reflect the color they are supposed to be at this time.

I'd like to have someone invite the "Worship Team" to Worship Planning on, AT LEAST, a Quarterly basis so we can discuss the physical aspects of worship (colors, decorations, banners, candle replacement, ushers, collection of offering, communion etc.). I am worried that as the Worship Planning Team becomes more active, "those things" will be assumed to be "taken care of" by Worship Planning by default. And they're not being taken care.

Of course, that leads to the difficulty of WHO IS the Team or Altar Guild and why aren't we communicating better? This year's team is listed as: Diane Burnett, Florence Pilkinton, Ottis Florence, Susan Rhodes and Kathy Tonini.

Florence: as someone who is on "both teams", will you please communicate with the existing Worship Team/Altar Guild and ask what we can do to make it possible for them to either attend an existing Worship Planning meeting or to meet after worship (or at another time) at least once every three months so that we can be sure everyone's on the same page with things like: paraments, communion, decoration, banners, candles, offering, ushering, etc?

Thanks.

Jinn,
Usually, Rev, Young took care of the parament colors. Since the Pentecost season lasts till about the end of Nov., Rev. Young and I decided that we will do 2 months of RED and change to GREEN at the beginning of August . (GREEN color is repeated during Epiphany but not the RED).
I'll relay your message to Diane Burnett regarding the Worship Team attending the meeting.

Thanks for the info, Flo. Unfortunately, I've already changed the paraments and am taking the soiled red paraments to the dry cleaner's.

Thank you for asking the Worship Team about a semi-regular attendance at worship planning. Please keep us posted here.

Florence: What response did Worship Team/ Diane have to the invitation? (this is a follow-up question from last night's worship planning meeting)

Hope your eyeball is doing fine! We've been praying for you. J

I highly recommend United Methodist Altars, A Guide for the Congregation by Hoyt L. Hickman. Revised in 1995, this helpful guide explains how to prepare the sancutry and its furnishings for worship. Hoyt Hickman is a UMC pastor, professor and consultant in worship and liturgy. He is also the author of United Methodist Worship.

FYI: Just got back the last of the paraments (except, perhaps, those on the altar) from the dry cleaner's. J

It was my pleasure; I need to take some things to the dry cleaner's anyway. J
